Although Mercedes-Benz does not currently offer a pickup version of the G-Class SUV, numerous aftermarket companies have stepped in to meet consumer demand. One such company is Pit26 Motorsports, located in California. With a lifted suspension system, Pit26 transforms G-Class SUVs into heavily-modified trucks complete with cargo boxes. The first Pit26 example was an AMG G63, although a G550 could also be used. Pit26 extends the frame by 20 inches, cuts the cab behind the rear seats, and adds aftermarket bumpers and large wheels. The heavily-modified truck also features a redesigned suspension system with Bilstein shocks and portal axles, which provide nine inches of additional ground clearance. Finally, Pit26 replaces the running boards with power-operated side steps for improved break-over angles.
There are no modifications to report on the interior of the Pit26 G-Class-based pickup. The vehicle is powered by a stock G63-sourced 4.0-liter V8 engine, which has been twin-turbocharged to produce an impressive 577 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. The power from the engine is transferred to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission and a two-speed transfer case. The braking system is also carried over from the G63, although Pit26 offers customers the option to request additional power, beefier brakes, or both.
The Pit26 G-Class-based pickup is priced at $385,000, with a wide range of customization options available for buyers to choose from. Alternatively, customers can wait for the release of other custom-built Gs, including the “G63-1000 Pre-Runner” designed for hardcore off-road enthusiasts, and the “G63 Lux” that will retain several factory parts, including the bumpers, for a more low-key appearance.
